An Interview with Marina Beerli...

Our presenter for the month of February is Marina Beerli. Below you can learn a little bit more about Marina and the workshop she'll be leading.

What will you be presenting this month?
The Feb. 20Th workshop is called "Bags from Rags". Participants will work with a variety of techniques and materials including fabric, yarns, floss, rubber stamps, paints, photos, beads, wire and anything else they can think of to create a unique purse or bag. In addition to the materials available at the workshop participants are encouraged to bring an old piece of clothing - anything from a shirt, baby clothes, hat, pants, dress - any piece of clothing that is liked but no longer worn - which will be used as the base of the bag. Additionally there will be plain canvas bags available for purchase at the workshop which can also be used as a bag base.

How long have you been interested in Fiber Arts?
I work as a mixed media artist - as evidenced from all the materials besides fiber which we can play with at this workshop. Fiber has been incorporated into much of my work for a long time. My first artwork as a child was one of those store bought embroidery patterns.

Any special skills necessary for your workshop?
The only skills necessary for this workshop are a willingness to play, experiment, get messy and have fun.

How long have you lived in the Jemez Valley, and what brought you here?
My husband and I have been living in Jemez since May. Look out the window at Mother Nature- that's what brought us here

What do you hope people will take away from this workshop?
I hope that participants leave the workshop after having a fun-filled day of exploration and creative exploration. And also that they leave with a purse/bag that is beautiful to them.

Thanks Marina!
